Web Address Element

This type of text field is used to collect web address information from your respondents.

There is no standalone “Web Address” item in the question picker — it’s implemented as an Input Limitation applied to a Text Box (single) or Text Boxes (multiple) question, which restricts what respondents can type into that field to URLs.

Asking for too many details from your respondents can be off-putting for them, but you can never have too much information. Collecting web addresses is another way of learning more about your respondents, which may well be the aim of your project.

  1. Go to the Builder
  2. Open the Form tab
  3. Click ’+ Question’
  4. Under ‘Standard Questions’, select Text Box (single) (or Text Boxes (multiple) if you need more than one)
  5. Title your field
  6. Open ‘Show more settings’ on the question (for Text Boxes (multiple), click the field and then the cog icon instead) and set Input Limitation to Web Address

A freshly-added Text Box (single) question has no Input Limitation applied and a textarea height of one line. Setting the Input Limitation to ‘Web Address’ restricts respondent input to URLs; none of the other settings change.

  • Required: This option will appear as a box, which can be enabled or disabled. When enabled, it will force respondents to complete the question before they can finish the survey or quiz. When disabled, participants will be able to skip any question. By default, this setting will be inactive.
  • Numbered: This button toggles the numbering for the concerned question.
  • Text rows: Customize the size of the textbox, and therefore the amount of text a respondent can input.
  • Prefix / Postfix: Add fixed text immediately before or after the respondent’s answer.
  • Input Limitation: Control what type of information participants can input. Toggle between ‘None’ (no Input Limitation), ‘Numeric’ (only numbers can be input), ‘Email’ (only email addresses can be input), ‘Web Address’ (only URLs can be input), and ‘Telephone Number’ (only phone numbers can be input).
  • Link to Contact detail: Choose a contact field to link all responses for this question to. Use ‘Manage contact fields’ (the gear icon beside it) to add or edit the available contact fields.

Participants will be able to enter text into the text field, like all other textbox based question.

The Quick Report for this question type will simply list all results as ‘text responses’.
