All the Default Merge Tags

With Shout, you can use merge tags to create personalized and dynamic content in your emails. They work by passing in the information contained in a contact’s custom fields. To learn how to do this, head over to our article on how to use merge tags in emails.

In this article, we’ll cover the default merge tags you can use in your emails. You can insert any of these from the Merge Tags dropdown in the email builder’s text toolbar, or by typing $ in the email body.

Display a contact’s email address in your email body.

${name}

Display a contact’s first name in your email body.

${last_name}

Display a contact’s last name in your email body.

${phone_number}

Display a contact’s phone number in your email body.

${address_line_1}

Display a contact’s first address line in your email body.

${address_line_2}

Display a contact’s second address line in your email body.

${city}

Display a contact’s city in your email body.
