Quiz Settings

We provide a range of settings to improve not only your quiz-building experience but also a participant’s completion process.

Open a quiz and click Settings in the builder sidebar. Options are grouped into collapsible sections — click a section heading to expand it. This article covers the settings most relevant to quizzes, grouped by the section they live in:

  • Language — no longer needs configuring (see below)
  • Quiz — Time Limit, Answer Feedback, Reveal correct answer on wrong answers
  • Appearance — Automatic Numbering (plus general form-appearance options)
  • Privacy & Security — Password Protection, Prevent Duplicate Responses
  • Completion & Notifications — Edit After Completed, Email Notifications
  • Show Scores — configured on the quiz’s Exit/Thank You Page itself, not in this Settings panel

This used to require selecting a language and manually translating a list of key phrases. That’s no longer necessary: built-in messages now automatically display in 54 languages, with no configuration required. The Language section in Settings is just an informational notice confirming this.

Set a time limit for respondents to complete your quiz. Open Settings, expand the Quiz section, and enter the number of minutes you would like participants to complete the project within into the numeric field.

Once the time limit is reached, the quiz will be automatically submitted regardless of completion. The default time limit will be 0, which means no limit will be applied.

The same Quiz section also has two related toggles:

  • Answer Feedback (‘Show answer feedback after each question’): shows whether an answer was correct or incorrect immediately after each question. Only applies when your quiz uses one-question-per-page navigation.
  • Reveal correct answer on wrong answers: on by default — highlights the correct answer(s) in green and incorrect selections in red on the results/marking page.

Found under Privacy & Security. This option limits the number of responses per computer to one, using cookies.

Cookies are packets of data sent to a browser by an internet server. Each time that user accesses the same server they are identified or tracked.

Preventing duplicate responses will stop the same users from completing your project more than once, therefore sustaining the integrity of your results.

Found under Completion & Notifications. When using the Tracking feature, you can use this setting to allow respondents to edit their responses once they have submitted their completed response.

If a participant feels they have made a mistake, provided incorrect information, or have simply changed their opinion concerning a subject, this option is a useful way to sanction some flexibility in changing their answer choices.

Also found under Completion & Notifications. Receive an instant notification when a new response is submitted to your form. The same section also has a ‘Create Inbox Conversation’ toggle (on by default), which automatically creates a Inbox conversation from each response that includes a contact email address.

Found under Appearance. Toggle this option to give questions numbers automatically. Of the settings on this page, this is the only one that is toggled ‘On’ by default.

You can also toggle numbering for individual questions by selecting the question in the builder and disabling its ‘Numbered’ switch — see How to Remove Question Numbering.

Found under Privacy & Security. Require participants to enter a password before they can complete your project. Enter your chosen password in the empty text box below the ‘Password Protection’ description.

Unlike the settings above, this isn’t configured in the Settings panel — it’s set on the quiz’s Exit/Thank You Page itself (quizzes get a “Marking” exit page by default). Select ‘Score/Marking page’ from that page’s Exit page type dropdown to reveal a few extra options:

  • Page totals: Shows respondents the total percentage and scores attained for each page.

  • Individual question scores: Includes correct answers, number of points scored, and the maximum number of attainable points for each question.

  • Feedback text: This allows you to write custom messages to be displayed to participants depending on the score they achieve. Messages can be configured for the total score of the quiz, and also the total score of each page.

  • Show or Hide Quiz Scores
