Can You Edit Live Projects?

Once a question has collected at least one response, a lock icon appears in its toolbar with a “Responses collected, some changes disabled” banner. However, you will still have some editing capabilities on that question, and you can keep editing any question that hasn’t collected responses yet as normal.

Locked Questions

The Question Settings Bar will still be mostly accessible, which includes:

  • Required: Make the question required, so that respondents can’t move onto the next page or submit the response without answering this questions.
  • Numbered: Enable or disable the numbering for a questions.
  • Option labels: Change how answer options are labelled (e.g. A, B, C… or 1, 2, 3…).
  • Rating heat bar: Enable or disable the colored bar above scales, sliders, and matrix questions.
  • Randomize: Randomize the order of answer options below multiple-choice, dropdown, and picture choice questions.
  • # of columns: Set the number of columns that multiple-choice answers are displayed in.

A few settings do lock along with the answer options once a question has responses:

  • “Other” text choice: Add an “other” answer option to multiple-choice questions, allowing respondents to add a free form answer.
  • Multiple selections (Minimum/Maximum): The min/max number of options a respondent must choose.
  • Link to Contact detail: Maps the question’s answer to a field on the respondent’s Contact record.

Note: Deleting a question once it has responses will permanently remove those responses too.

What You Can’t Edit Once a Question Has Responses

Section titled “What You Can’t Edit Once a Question Has Responses”
  • Add new answer options
  • Delete answer options
  • Re-order answer options
  • Some settings (see above)

In order to accomplish any of the above, click the lock icon on the question and choose Delete responses — this clears the responses tied to that question and unlocks it again.
